The basics

What is travel insurance?

Travel insurance is a short-term policy for a specific trip (or a year of trips). It pays for medical emergencies abroad, trip cancellations and interruptions, lost baggage and documents, and flight delays — plus 24×7 assistance when you need help in an unfamiliar place.

What's typically covered

  • Emergency medical treatment & hospitalisation abroad
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation
  • Trip cancellation, curtailment or delay
  • Loss of checked-in baggage & passport
  • Flight delay and missed connection
  • Personal accident & personal liability abroad
  • 24×7 global assistance helpline

Common conditions & exclusions

  • Pre-existing conditions, unless specifically covered
  • Adventure/extreme sports, unless opted in
  • Losses due to being under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Baggage left unattended or not reported to authorities
  • Travel against medical advice or to restricted regions

Some countries (e.g. Schengen) require a minimum cover — we make sure your plan qualifies.

Types of plans

A plan for every kind of trip

Single-Trip

Cover for one specific journey — the most common choice for a holiday or business trip abroad.

Multi-Trip (Annual)

One policy covering all your trips in a year — ideal for frequent flyers, with a per-trip day limit.

Family Travel

Cover the whole family under one plan, often more economical than individual policies.

Student Travel

Longer-duration cover for students abroad — medical, study interruption and sponsor protection.

Senior Citizen

Plans designed for elderly travellers, with higher medical limits and relevant cover.

Schengen / Visa

Plans that meet the minimum medical cover mandated for Schengen and other visas.

FAQs

Travel insurance questions

Is travel insurance mandatory?

Not for every destination, but Schengen and several other visas require a minimum medical cover. Even where it's optional, overseas medical bills make it strongly advisable. We confirm the rule for your destination.

How much medical cover do I need?

It depends on where you travel. For the USA/Canada, higher limits (US$100,000–500,000) are sensible; for Asia, lower limits may suffice. We recommend based on your destination and health.

Does it cover trip cancellation?

Most plans cover cancellation or curtailment for specified reasons — illness, emergencies and other covered events — reimbursing non-refundable bookings. We help you pick a plan with adequate cancellation cover.

What if I lose my passport abroad?

Travel plans typically cover the cost of obtaining a duplicate/emergency passport and related expenses. Report the loss to local authorities and the assistance line promptly — we'll guide you.

Can I buy it after I've started my trip?

Travel insurance is meant to be bought before you depart. A few plans allow limited post-departure cover, but the safest, cheapest option is to insure before you fly — we'll set it up quickly.
